Saturday Morning Pantry Sort
Sat, Aug 15 · 9:00–11:00 AM · 2 hours
Sort and box shelf-stable donations for the Saturday afternoon distribution. Most of the shift is standing at a long table with four or five other volunteers, working through crates that came in from the Wednesday food bank run.
What to expect
- What to wear
- Closed-toe shoes, clothes you don't mind getting dusty. No apron needed.
- Activity level
- Light — standing, occasional 15 lb boxes. Chairs available for seated sorting.
- Group size
- 10–14 volunteers, split into two tables.
- Who else is there
- Two staff coordinators and a handful of weekly regulars.
- Accessibility
- Step-free entrance from the Warrington Ave lot. Accessible restroom on-site.
The vibe
Casual and social — expect some downtime while sorting, and a lot of chatting. Good for first-timers; there are almost always two or three other new people on a Saturday.

Pro tips from past volunteers (3)
- Park in the gravel lot behind the building — the street spots are permit-only until 10 AM.
- There's coffee in the back room. Nobody tells new volunteers this.
- If you bring a water bottle you'll use it; the sorting room gets warm by 10.
